During my research I have found the last name spelled Petillon, Petillion, Pittilion and Pettilon. A check of the 1880 Federal
Census for Ford County turned up only one Petillon:

According to Bat Masterson, Petillon, a resident of Dodge City for six years had moved from Chicago with his family for
health reasons. At the time of the conflict he was Lincoln County Clerk and Pie-Eating Champion. Later he became Editor of
the Dodge City Democrat.
